REAP 2.0 grants provide new opportunities to develop sustainable community strategies that reduce congestion, reduce emissions, and improve health through innovative projects unique to Stanislaus County. While many Central Valley communities have developed around automobile travel, this plan’s combination of under-used site development and new near-term bicycle and pedestrian-specific projects can create an environment conducive and pleasant for pedestrians and cyclists.
Environments where people can walk or bike to work, for errands, or for fun tend to attract a diverse group of people seeking a more active lifestyle and draw businesses that provide jobs and opportunities for the community as a whole. From tree canopy coverage to eliminating gaps in bicycle and pedestrian networks, the region’s downtowns, shopping centers, and community cores can be enhanced to make nonmotorized forms of transportation safer and enjoyable for all who live and work in Stanislaus County.
